Anchoring in Ibiza and Formentera is an experience that combines freedom, natural beauty and unforgettable moments. Sailing in these waters allows you to discover unique spots that cannot be seen from land. But for the crossing to be perfect, knowing where to anchor and how to do it correctly is key. In this guide we show you three of the most emblematic destinations in the Balearic archipelago -Tagomago, Espalmador and Ses Illetes- with practical recommendations for anchoring in Ibiza and Formentera like a true local.

Tagomago Island: unique nature off the coast of Ibiza
Located in the northeast of Ibiza, Tagomago is a private island and one of the most spectacular spots in the Mediterranean. Although you are not allowed to enter the mainland, you can anchor in the surrounding area and enjoy the scenery from the sea.
Recommended anchorages:
The safest and most common is Port de Tagomago, in the southwest of the island. It is also possible to anchor in the western area, where the waters are calm and sheltered from the wind.
Recommended activities:
You can take a kayak route around the island, go snorkelling or even go scuba diving at Tagomago Norte Las Anclas, an area suitable for all levels that reaches a depth of 39 metres.
How to get there:
Only accessible by sea, it is a frequent stop on multi-day crossings or private excursions from Santa Eulària.

Espalmador Island: anchor in front of paradise
Separated from Formentera by a narrow channel of turquoise waters, the island of Espalmador is a virgin islet accessible only by sea. Its main beach, Racó of s’Alga, is ideal for anchoring and enjoying a setting that looks like something out of the Caribbean.
Local Council:
Arrive early if you want to anchor in high season and enjoy an unforgettable swim in shallow waters.
Anchoring area:
You can anchor off the coast, but it is important to avoid posidonia. There are areas set aside for ecological anchoring, and it is advisable to consult apps such as Donia to anchor without damaging the marine environment.
What to expect:
Absolute tranquility, white sand, crystal clear waters and a protected natural landscape. There are no buildings or services, which makes Espalmador a unique place to disconnect.

Ses Illetes beach: anchorage with views of the “Maldives of the Mediterranean”.
In the north of Formentera, within the Ses Salines Natural Park, is Ses Illetes, one of the most famous beaches in Europe. Its setting of white sand and bright blue sea attracts yachts and boats from all over the world.
Anchoring regulations:
Anchoring over posidonia is prohibited. The area has ecological mooring buoys available for private boats. This system protects the ecosystem and allows you to enjoy the area in complete safety.
Ambient:
Exclusive and relaxed. Perfect for spending the day at anchor with visual access to one of the most spectacular beaches in the Mediterranean.
Access:
Easy from the sea. Ideal as a stop on routes that include Espalmador and Cala Saona.

Tips for anchoring like a local sailor
- Always check the weather forecast before planning your anchorage.
- Use tools such as Navily or Donia to know the type of seabed and avoid protected areas.
- Make sure you have the right equipment on board: anchor, sufficient anchor line and up-to-date nautical charts.
- It respects environmental regulations. Many coves are inside natural parks.
- If it’s your first time in the area, chartering with a skipper or consulting local experts can make all the difference.
